Flowers in Jamaica
28 Sep 2008
This flower decided to grow in a wooden planter that was used to cut open coconuts so we could drink the milk. The flower seemed to enjoy the surplus coconut milk as it’s source for water.
This flower looks almost like a fake silk flower, I had to actually play with it in order to make sure that it was real.
The bees were busy on this giant bloom while I was taking photos so I decided to capture them at work. For some reason the Jamaican bees decided to leave me alone, I left without being attacked!
I’m not sure exactly what this is but I loved the transition from the shades of green to almost a pure yellow. A trip to the Jamaican countryside without enjoying the plants, trees and flowers is not possible in my opinion!

The 9th flower posted here….the purple/green leaves and the stretch of flower that you say you want to see in bloom is a Coleus plant. It can be found in Canada, I used to have one. Most people pinch the flowers off, as they stop the plant from growing further.

The beautiful pink flower with the visiting bee is a Trumpet Flower, also known as Brugmansia.

The 5th and 6th flowers… posted here… are two varieties of the hibiscus flower. The yellow one (5th pic) probably is a dwarf hibiscus/bonsai hibiscus/garden-variety hibiscus. The ‘red’ Hibiscus
(Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) is used for hair care purposes, while the ‘white’ hibiscus is considered to have medicinal properties in the Indian traditional system of medicine, ‘Ayurveda’.
The 7th pic is that of the ‘almonda’ flower – it is a climber. Thats what it is referred to out here in India… not sure of its botanical name, though. The 9th pic… is the ‘Coleus’ plant.
I have them all in my terrace garden here in India
Unable to recollect the names of the flowers/plants… in the 2nd and 4th pics… even though I racked my brains real hard!
